To get an impression of my offerings, find below examples of workshops and topics that I'm passionate about teaching. My approach to rope is informed by my background in dance and in linguistics as well as by my tantric and yogic practices. I am passionate about bringing myself, my learning and my life into rope and as such my rope teaching is inherently interdisciplinary and holistic in its view. That means I always address both sides of the rope and keep a firm eye on emotional, psychological and communicational aspects as these build the foundation onto which we can tie.

Topics:
Notation - Shibari Notation Technique - see also our dedicated website: https://www.shibarinotation.info/
Embodied Rope - the somatic skills that make the scene,  from authentic expression to coping skills
Tying & Technique - Rope handling and tying technique
Movement - Movement approaches in and at the rope

Creativity & Technique - Interdisciplinary creative techniques approaches that advance your rope scenes

Shibari Notation

This is a graphical notation system for Shibari which is akin to choreography notation for dance or musical notation. It was invented to cater to the needs of exploration, documentation, and composition of Shibari sequences, offering both novices and seasoned practitioners an easy and straightforward yet precise method of notation. It serves as a means to document, recall, and construct sequence progressions with ease. Whether swiftly capturing ideas or memorising sequences from workshops or performances, this notation can be of great help. For advanced students, it facilitates the drafting and comprehension of new concepts before trying it out.

Embracing the Gote

The Gote represents more than just a technical harness—it's a profound journey of connection, sensation, and mutual understanding. This workshop invites both riggers and models to explore this iconic and foundational tie through a holistic, nuanced lens. We will learn about the structure and purpose of this tie, how it affects your body, identify potential risks and learn how to manage and mitigate them. Beyond mere technical execution, we'll delve into the rich emotional landscape of the Gote. Participants will discover how this tie transcends its practical purposes, becoming a powerful medium of communication, trust, and shared experience.

Tying & Technique

Gote Clinic

This is a class ideally suited for those who seek to be able to adapt their Gote even more individually to their tying partners or for models who've had bad experiences and/or developed a fear of Gotes. We'll look at different styles of Gotes and their application and into your individual needs. Please bring a tying partner/model for this course.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, refine techniques, and adapt the tie to suit your body, preferences and style. Learning the TK gives you a wide range of valuable principles and techniques that are transferable to many other areas of shibari practice.

Elemental Forces from Earth to Air

Shibari is a movement practice and understanding movement is paramount to understanding how we build a scene, communicate and create emotional landscapes. Our movement is structured and specific and we can understand how it functions. This will be an opportunity to explore movement, and to reflect on how an increased understanding of movement can be embedded in as well as elevate your own practice.

We will guide you through a workshop of discovery and insight into how movement expression is controlled, created and communicated. Through exploring, embodying, observing movement, discussion and dialogue, you can gain a thorough understanding of movement and how to use it intentionally to build and communicate your story.

Unlocking Emotion: Meisner technique for Shibari

This workshop fuses the brilliance of Sanford Meisner's renowned acting technique with Shibari. "Acting is living truthfully under imaginary circumstances,” - and so is Shibari. Through Meisner's repetition exercise, we delve via the verbal into the non-verbal realm, to enhance emotional freedom and versatility in Shibari. This technique, rooted in instincts and spontaneity, goes beyond verbal communication, allowing participants to explore the truthfulness of each moment within the rope practice. Through learning to read your partner's cues and respond with heightened awareness, this practice not only deepens the emotional ties between participants is is also a great tool to elevate your Kotoba Seme.
